You may also not have compiled tmpfs in your kernel. (should be rw for all users).Īnd whether /dev/shm is mounted as a tmpfs. Have a look if your permissions on /dev/shm/ are correct. This behavior can be enabled/disabled by setting "autospawn = yes" or "no" in /etc/pulse/nf The other advantage is, sound via pa does not fail if for some reason pulseaudio hasn't been started or crashed. The advantage of this is you don't have to start yet another service at bootup or even when logging in to your DE - saving precious bootup time and ressources, as pa is only started when it is needed. So yes, no program has to start portaudio directly to use it, but indirectly it may be started if it is missing.

Dbus then either returns how to connect to the running daemon, or, if no daemon is running, starts it first.

That means, a program that wants to use pulseaudio issues a request to dbus to find out how to connect to pulseaudio.

But AFAIK pulseaudio uses dbus-activation. I am also getting this error when I try and run I thought you would always run pulse as a daemon in the background and programs would just connect to it.Ĭould you maybe shed some more light on this and explain how it works, or point me in the direction of some good reading material!! So now I'm slightly confused because I thought it would be a good idea to run pulse at startup.Ī was also thinking wouldn't you want pulse started as a daemon right way so that other programs could connect to it? I have mpd in my default and that starts PA for me I don't have PA in any runlevel ( there is also gentoo docu that states that you shouldn't).
#Pulseaudio install plus#
Plus I thought that you had to have pulseaudio running, not have application start pulse.įor example I also have mpd start on boot and it doesn't start pulse according to my knowledge. You will want to add pulseaudio to the default runlevel. I was looking at the gentoo pulseaudio page ( ) and had seen this: PA is launched the moment some userapp (NOTE it is per-user NOT system) tries to access the PA system If so how did you fix it/ start it at boot?ĭo you make your own /etc/init.d/pulse? Has anybody else had this problem with not having pulse in /etc/init.d/ ? Plus there is no pulseaudio in /etc/init.d/ so how would I have pulseaudio start at startup? I found a way to start it so that it works by using Last edited by thekeymaker on Sat 9:59 pm edited 1 time in total service filesĮ: module.c: Failed to load module "module-console-kit" (argument: ""): initialization failed.ĭoes anyone know how to fix this or could at least point me in the right direction.
